With the summer heat in full swing, I've been searching for ways to keep my dogs cool and happy. It’s been so hot lately that I've even been struggling to stay cool, so I knew I had to come up with something fun and refreshing for the dogs. That’s when I decided to try making some frozen treats—these fruit and peanut butter ice balls were the perfect solution!
Stormy, Luci, and Zelda each had their own reactions to these icy treats. Stormy was absolutely thrilled and couldn’t get enough of them. Luci enjoyed them too, though she took her time. Zelda, on the other hand, wasn’t having any of it—she took one look outside, decided it was too hot, and headed back in.
If you’re looking for a fun and easy way to help your dogs cool off and get a little extra enrichment, these DIY ice balls are perfect. They’re super simple to make with ingredients you already have around your home, and the dogs love them (well, at least two out of three in my house do!).
Ingredients and Supplies:
Balloons
Fruit slurry (your dog’s favorite fruits)
Peanut butter
Water
Steps:
Make a slurry by blending your dog’s favorite fruits or veggies with some peanut butter.
Fill balloons with the mixture, adding water at the sink to get them to about the size of a softball.
Freeze the balloons until they’re solid.
Once frozen, peel off the balloon and let your dogs enjoy these refreshing treats!
The instructions are easy enough, and they get the job done. BUT, I did have a few issues as I made them. You can see them below on our YouTube video.

These ice balls aren’t just tasty—they’re also a great way to keep your dogs hydrated and provide them with some mental and physical stimulation on those scorching summer days. Plus you can add whatever you want inside so you can customize them to your dogs favorites.
Benefits:
Keeps dogs cool and hydrated
Offers mental and physical enrichment
Easy to make with simple, dog-friendly ingredients
So, give these DIY frozen dog treats a try and see how your pups like them! And if you do, I’d love to hear how it goes. Come and let us know on one of our social media accounts linked below.
